THE GRILL BOY – A good fast food restaurant at the newly opened Spark Place, Cubao serving affordable Filipino food staples that we all know and love. For those of you that is not familiar with the brand, The Grill Boy was a brainchild by the original owner of Dencio’s, it’s like a fast food version of the more popular, casual dining place.
The relationship between the brands is very evident with the food, specially their best-selling Sisig, think the same quality but much more affordable and they serve it with unlimited rice too, no-brainer right?
My absolute favorite from the appetizers that we tried is their Crispy Pork Mango Salad. It just had the most amazing combination of flavor and texture – the lovely crispy pork that its topped with and the refreshing mango bits and relish. SO GOOD!
If you love Laing, do try their version, it’s quite good with the creamy gata base that goes really well with a lot of rice. Top tip is to mix the laing bits with rice and eat it with their awesome sisig!
Their Pancit is quite good too for the price, the sahog / toppings is quite on the generous side and it just tasted good. They also have batchoy if you want something hot, perfect for a cold afternoon.
But if there’s one dish, one thing that you shouldn’t miss every time you visit The Grill Boy is their SISIG! Seriously this is so good! Now you can order it ala carte that comes in a bigger serving and served on the more familiar sizzling plate, or as a rice meal, served with unlimited rice.
From one sinfully decadent dish to another, do try their Lechon Kawali as well. Crispy fried golden and lovely, crispy on the outside and tender and moist as you bite into it. Try it with the atchara to cut through that flavorful crispy pork.
The Grilled Tuna Belly is really good! Tried it two times and it was always cooked perfectly, the fish delightfully flaky and moist and it had this lovely flavorful glaze – hit it with the dipping sauce and it’s all good.
Another personal favorite at The Grill Boy is their LIEMPO! What makes it really good aside from that gorgeous piece of perfectly grilled pork belly is their creamy white garlic sauce. It just works well with everything and further highlights the flavor of the meat. SO GOOD!
For desserts, we tried their Halo-halo and Leche Flan. Their halo-halo is quite good too – classic components and then you hit the grated cheese giving that spike of creamy and savory goodness, provides a nice contrast of flavor to the sweet tooth treat. The leche flan is all you want it to be, perfectly creamy laced with a sweet glaze, perfect with coffee.
The Grill Boy serves food leagues beyond the other fast food places that serves their food with unlimited rice. If only my office is near Spark Place in Cubao, I’d be here everyday. So offices and foodies around the area, do yourself a favor and try their food, it’s very good and so affordable I’m sure you’ll be hooked too.
