From french macarons with inventive flavors to artisanal cakes my first time at Cafe Macaron of Fairmont Hotel was filled with unparalleled excitement. I’d love to try all them; eye-candy treats for the sweet tooth that would enthuse anyone.
Situated at the lobby of the hotel, the place stands out with its chic interiors and drool-worthy pastry selections.
My only concern would be the high chairs, I mean not anyone would feel comfortable sitting on it, if you want a more laid back feel, you can always order food here and dine at the lounge adjacent to the cafe.
Starting with the choice of drinks, I tried one of their signature hand shaken mochas, the salted caramel.
Took a sip and I love the pronounced salty flavor contrasted with a nice, strong mocha flavor. Though the saltiness might be too much for some, a good stir should do the trick, it’s also nice to top every sip with a spoonful of the whipped cream.
Though I tried almost all of the variants of their macarons, I’d only feature my top 3, as it’s too many and it’d make the post ridiculously long.
First is their Chocolate-Muscovado Macaron, of pronounced chocolate flavor, you’d love how the taste of the muscovado helps make a more interesting taste. Of light crunchy outer layer, with the chewy filling giving this awesome texture, and I really liked that it’s not too sweet.
The perfect balance of flavor and texture; rich hazelnut filling, chewy to the bite with the slightest tinge of resistance from the outer layer. The roughly chopped nut bits at top makes for a more interesting texture. Really simple, but good.
It’s no secret that I’m a big fan of anything that’s queso de bola, fortunately, their macaron did not disappoint. Same light and crunchy outer layer with a delightful chewy filling then this nice creamy, sharp, cheesy flavor would delight your palate, it left me wanting for more, I even brought a dozen of this, I just couldn’t get enough.
Then there’s the lovely cakes, well I also tried a few 😉
Their mango cheesecake was very simple, yet really good. The cheesecake base was just heavenly, soft, light, and creamy, and it almost melts in your mouth. Then you hit the mangoes providing contrast in flavor with it’s sweetness. And then the roughly chopped pistachios does the trick giving it a more interesting texture.
And yes! Their Strawberry Panna Cotta Mousse is as yummy as it looks. Of light and creamy panna cotta base, the tinge of tartness delighted my palate and left me wanting for more, one bite after another, I really liked it’s light and fruity flavor.
From all the cakes we tried I think this was the most raved. It’s something that even tea-haters would love. First was it’s interesting flavor, simple chocolate-y cake made more awesome with the flavor of the Earl Grey tea. Then the chocolate chips at the tops gives you something that’s nice to the bite. And the strawberries with the slightest of tartness helps balance all the flavors, this one’s a must-try!
Then there’s this, Dark Chocolate Gianduja cake base that’s oh so rich, fudge-y and chocolate-y, and then you hit the center with some calamansi bits giving this nice tinge of tartness not only giving it an awesome contrast of flavor, it also helps cleanse the palate with the rich chocolate cake base.
VERDICT: With some really interesting macaron flavors and the delectable cake variants, a visit at Cafe Macaron will be a blissful experience to every sweet tooth. I’d definitely come back for more!
VALUE FOR MONEY: The pastries and beverages here maybe a bit pricey for some, but you’re getting the good stuff here. So if you had the luxury of splurging to some really good sweet tooth treats, this place would be an awesome option.
