ALCHEMY BISTRO BAR – Stumbled upon this nice little restaurant in Poblacion, Makati and fell in love with the food – the chef that spearheads the kitchen is classically trained, from the prestigious Le Cordon Bleu, her training is evident with the dishes they serve in the restaurant mostly classic dishes prepared well and with gusto. The place serves fine food without being snooty and the hefty price tag and couple that with a laid back, fun place you’re in for a nice dining and drinking experience.
Surf and Turf Skewers of steak bite-sized pieces cooked nice medium rare yielding this tender meat along with shrimp pieces and a lovely cognac green peppercorn sauce. Laced in sauce, it gives it that nice depth of flavour – this is so simple but very good and tasty I wanted to eat it with rice or some starch / carb filler. LE JARDIN is one gorgeous fine dining restaurant located at the heart of BGC. A first look at this place will give you a feeling that you’ve been transported elsewhere as the place is stunning, from the interiors to their breathtaking view of the cityscape, specially during dinner service makes it a great place for intimate dinners or if you want to escape from the hustle and bustle of the city.

Le Petit Souffle is a new restaurant concept by young and talented pastry chefs Miko Aspiras and Kristine Lotilla, you might know them as they spearhead the very successful craft cookie place that’s also in Century City Mall – Scout’s Honor. I was very excited about this concept as it’s quite unique, a French-Japanese inspired bistro with the desserts and sweet tooth treats the star of the show, but they have savory dishes too, some very good ones at that.
Was a bit depressed when they told me they’re not serving any souffle because of some technical problems in the kitchen but the savior is the chocolate cake of my dreams – three to four layers of pure chocolate bliss and that fantastic Salted Duck Egg Parfait! New year, new market menu crafted by some of the school’s alumni. Went to dinner at Enderun’s Restaurant 101 to sample the new dishes, I’ve always wanted to check this place, an application restaurant of the school’s culinary program. We had a five-course dinner and was quite impressed with the food – the plating / presentation, the combination of flavors, and texture – good.

Kouign Amann are desserts made in food heaven, the first time I tried this delectable sweet tooth treat was at a degustation, where I met Chef Cyrille Soenen of Impressions and Brasserie Cicou in Greenhills, during that dinner we tried the classic and the chocolate version of their kouign amann and I’m telling you it was love at first bite. It was just these layers of butter, flaky pastry and sugar the base was just fantastic! Reminded me of a really good croissant / puff pastry but only more rich and decadent it’s really a treat. I’ve been wanting to go to their restaurant in Greenhills for quite some time but failed since I don’t usually go to that area but I’ve been craving for it since. So imagine my happiness and excitement when they launch this new pastry shop that sells kouign amann and its many permutations! Went there right away to treat myself a box – which I devoured in one seating after I took pictures of them for the feature. 😀
They have a number of variants for the sweet tooth treat; from the more basic but equally satisfying toppings to the more premium ones and the more complex savory variants. Personal favorites are Peanut Butter and Jelly, Caramel, and Chorizo
