NACI Comfort Food – A fairly new place at BGC’s restaurant scene, the place debuted in Greenhills until they decided to move to this better location earlier this year. It’s my kind of bar; a place that takes pride on all things comfort food and all that warm-and-fuzzies. Also their specialties revolve around the love of RICE, which I think is our ultimate comfort food. In most cases rice is a staple on our dining table, it’s just one of those things we can’t live without.
It’s no secret that I’m a big fan of pasta, the more cheesy and creamy, the better. So imagine my excitement upon trying Nadine’s Adobo Canneloni, two of my favorite comfort food in one dish! Oh generous strands of pulled adobo meat oozing with flavor and then there’s that heavenly concoction of béchamel sauce and cheese all in that chewy pasta base — fantastic, ethereal.
Man I’ve tried a lot, two visits at this place in a week is a testament of how good the food is, It’s one of those places that almost everything on the menu looks good, honestly I wanted to try them all. I normally don’t feature drinks on my posts, but will start you off with one of my favorites in NACI, dessert in a cup, imagine a rich, velvety chocolate cake in smoothie form!
Aptly named heaven on earth, this very drink gave me pure chocolate bliss. An insanely rich concoction of melted dark chocolate, vanilla ice cream, and chocolate ganache, truly a little bit of heaven!
SMOKED SALMON PIZZA (P540) – Smoked salmon, caramelized onions, tomato sauce, mozzarella, capers and dill cream.
Pieces of smoked salmon on a creamy bed of cheese drizzled with their dill cream, really liked how the crust was light and thin and then you hit the smoked salmon bits, partial to its fatty goodness and fine texture, I was very happy with this dish. The dill cream base gives it a nice hint of creaminess and added flavor and a dash of the chili flakes to top it of, a nice kick of spiciness to titillate the taste buds.
KANI MANGO CRUNCH (P260) – Layers of assorted greens, kani, ripe mangoes, cucumber with crispy wonton and vermicelli drizzled with wasabi mayo.
A simple salad fix that got raves from all of us. Simplicity in flavor and texture that just works! The greens and wonton bits give it a nice hint of crunch and then you hit the kani bits with the wasabi mayo, richness with faint notes of spice, this one’s really good! A must-try!
SMOKED SALMON SALAD (P280) – Mixed greens tossed in honey lemon dill dressing with smoked salmon, onion rings, cherry tomatoes and parmesan shavings.
Their Smoked Salmon Salad was quite nice too, basically it has the base as pizza, smoked salmon and a light and creamy lemon dill dressing, though I like he how the greens and onion rings give a nice tinge of crunch to the bite, I found the dill dressing to be a bit overpowering in this dish. I honestly think it could use a little bit of tweaking, so the flavor of the smoked salmon bits can be appreciated better.
PENNE AL FUNGI WITH WHITE SHRIMP (P360) – Penne tossed in basil mushroom cream with white shrimps served with focaccia bread.
Penne enveloped by a rich ma-umami basil-mushroom cream sauce, the pasta bits had this nice chewiness to the bite. Then you hit the shrimps and mushroom bits, plump shrimps with mushroom bits give you an overload of flavor. Topped of by some grated cheese and all that rich, creamy goodness it’s a great compliment to the seafood bits.
NADINE’S ADOBO CANNELLONI (P360) – Classic flaked adobo rolled in pasta topped with bechamel laced with adobo sauce and mozzarella served with focaccia bread.
Two of my favorite comfort food in one dish! A rich concoction of mozzarella and béchamel sauce, generous strands of meat packed with adobo goodness. Savory meat perfectly paired with a rich and creamy sauce base. The whole thing is rolled up on these nice cannelloni pasta pieces; chewy to the bite, their pasta are made fresh giving it a nice distinct texture. This is really, really good — truly a feel-good dish it’s like that I’d melt with the cheese and all that good stuff. Fantastic! Another must-try!
