NACI Comfort Food and Dessert Bar also takes pride on their specialties, all rice entrées, they celebrate the Filipino’s love for rice, a staple everyday at our dining table. I tried some of them and I was quite impressed.
HAINANESE CHICKEN RICE BOWL (P320) – Classic Hainanese chicken served over ginger mushroom rice with sweet soy and ginger paste.
Chicken Rice — With a number of condiments, the permutations on how one is supposed to eat this dish has always been a topic of debate. A dish that you can personalize with a tweaking of the combination of condiments. Naci’s version is a bit different though, the ginger paste and the sweet soy is topped on the chicken bits and they use a ginger-mushroom rice as a base. Took a bite and I love how each piece of chicken is glazed with these condiments giving it a much needed spike in flavor. Then you hit the rice and all that ma-umami goodness delights your palate even more. With the fatty bits of the chicken skin almost melting in my mouth and that medley of savory and sweet from the condiments and the rice, it was really awesome.
BRAISED BEEF OSSOBUCO (P520) – Braised beef ossobucco in tomato sauce, red wine and mirepoix served with buttered vegetables and parsley rice
OSSOBUCO for me directly translates to rich bone marrow, fortunately NACI’s version did not disappoint. A huge veal shank packing that fatty, melt-in-your-mouth bone marrow goodness. The meat was succulent, fork-tender, all enveloped by this rich sauce base of tomato sauce and red wine. It’s certainly a more rice, more fun type of dish. And then you scoop out all that bone marrow awesomeness, bliss!
PERUVIAN CHICKEN RICE (P420) – Slow cooked baked rice with chunks of chicken, sauteed capsicums topped with aioli
It was love at first bite! I LOVE their Peruvian Chicken Rice! I can see myself going back to NACI just for this very dish. Chunks of chicken slow cooked with the rice that makes for a heavenly combination of that really tender meat and the really flavorful rice, then you get these faint notes of flavor from the capsicums, then there’s the aioli and BOOM! I’m a happy camper. A bit of lemon to tone down all those flavors, binding them quite beautifully. This one’s a definite must-try!
CUCHIFRITO RICE BOWL (P280) – Double fried-broiled pork belly topped over tinapa rice served with red egg salsa.
Another rave-worthy dish, this time for the shameless meat lovers. *raises hands* Those double fried-broiled pork belly bits reminded me of bagnet, the base is really crispy and the fatty bits had this slightly chewy feel to the bite, I was really happy munching on the pork belly slices and then I hit it with the rice, a combination that makes so much sense! For something so flavorful and fatty be paired with a tinapa rice and all its smoked goodness and then you hit the salted egg salsa, wonderful! This one’s another must-try!
For desserts, I got all things chocolate — starting off with my current obsession, I couldn’t pass on their molten lava cake!
MOLTEN LAVA CAKE (P190) – Rich chocolate cake with a molten chocolate center of Belgian chocolate served with vanilla ice cream and caramel sauce
It’s no secret that I have an obsession with lava cakes, I just love that lovely combination of hot and cold desserts. NACI’s version was quite nice, dark Belgian chocolate as base with a rich fudge-y cake base a spoonful of this beauty got me enjoying all that chocolate-y goodness warm and rich. Then I hit it with a spoonful of that vanilla ice cream, cold, calming balancing the flavors and then I get these faint notes of caramel from the drizzle, lovely.
BLACK AND WHITE CUPCAKE (P90) – Premium Dark Belgian Chocolate Ganache on top of vanilla.
Again, a combination that makes so much sense! It’s really simple; a rich bitter-sweet dark Belgian chocolate ganache on a moist and light vanilla cupcake base. Got raves for its simplicity, just outright good!
I had a fantastic dining experience at NACI Comfort Food, there’s so much more in the menu that I wanted to try. But so far, the quality of food and the service is quite laudable. I’m really excited to go back there and try a bunch of other stuff!
