ALQUERIA – A restaurant in SM Megamall that’s formerly known as Boqueria. We recently had dinner here and had a feast, sampling a couple of items from their menu; from the hefty serving of paella to the more filling and decadent dishes, we had a good dining experience here and was pleasantly surprised with the quality of the food that they serve.
An off the menu item, they serve good steaks like this big hunk of meat, a porterhouse steak that’s a nice and filling treat to us meat lovers.Starting with something a bit more familiar, do try their Salpicao of tender beef pieces cooked in olive oil and lots of garlic. This is very tender and flavorful I would gladly eat it with a lot of rice.
A personal favorite from the starters we tried is this deceptively simple dish of Cangrejo con Jamon Serrano. This is really good! Simple flavor and texture combination that just works; from the plump crab meat and the greens to the salty jamon serrano layer this is a must-try!
Something that’s warm and comforting, don’t miss on their Queso Fundido of a warm and rich manchego cheese dip with pimientos and jalapeno served with spiced chips, that nice hint of spice will leave you wanting for more.
This is very good! Pescado Al Horno of whole Lapu-lapu baked and marinated in white wine, stuffed with herbs and spices making each strand of the fish meat infinitely more flavorful. So simple but really good!
A badass version of crispy pata is this Pata de Cochinillo of 21-day old suckling pig ham roasted until the outer bits are crispy with the meat still tender and moist as you bite into it. Served with a few corn cobs and their flavorful sauce, this goes well with their paella.
How glorious and festive looking is this Paella Valenciana of fluffy rice base with nice toasted soccarat bits at the bottom of the pan, the saffron infused rice makes for the most flavorful base for the various crustaceans, squeeze a bit of lemon and you’re all good!
But really one of the highlight of our dinner there is the steak, just look at that beauty, whole porterhouse in all its meaty, and fatty glory. I attacked the meat closer to the bone and got a nice balance of succulent meat with nice fat trimmings on the side. The steak is quite good that it’s enjoyable even without the sauce, they serve it with some veggies and mashed potatoes.
Perhaps the most simple sweet tooth treat that we tried during our dinner, their Churros Con Chocolate of light and slightly chewy pastry fried to nice crisp sprikled with sugar and a bit of cinnamon and served with a nice rich dark choocolate dip made with Valor chocolate. And the good news is they are offering this at 50% off until the 26th.
Creama Catalana – Custard and caramel based dessert, what’s not to like right? A creamy flan with nice caramelized topping the brittle as you hit it with the spoon, this is very good with strong coffee.
But my personal favorite from the dessert that we tried is this Manchego Cheesecake of a nice velvety and creamy cheesecake base – classic and done right made even more awesome with that melted manchego cheese drizzle. And then you hit some cheese shavings giving it a nice spike of flavor. GOOD!
