It’s no secret that I love everything that’s sinful, fatty, and meaty. Most often than not, I go for all the usual pampabata stuff as I’m the happiest when I get to munch on those. One gloomy afternoon though, I decided to have lunch at this nice, meek restaurant and cafe along Jupiter Street, Corner Tree Cafe — It’s not my usual quick lunch fix as they specialize on the healthy stuff; vegan and vegetarian options that’s quite appealing.
Now I have to reward myself after eating all that good, healthy food right? So I gorged on this! Their Chocolate Mousse with Dark Toblerone. A very simple sweet tooth treat; rich and chocolate-y I just couldn’t get enough.
Now seeing the menu was quite a treat, they have all these seemingly good vegetarian or vegan dishes that did strike my fancy, tried the more familiar ones first; some dumplings and pizza for starters.
5 pieces of dumplings stuffed with shiitake mushrooms, spinach, carrots, and singkamas (jicama) with a rice vinegar dipping sauce.
Dumplings that are filling with these mushroom pieces that gives off a nice earthy flavor, then you hit the carrots and singkamas that makes for a really nice contrast in texture with a nice tinge of crunch to the bite. Hit it with the rice vinegar dipping sauce and I liked how it helped tone down the flavors.
Local mozzarella, fresh rosemary, garlic and sea salt on a ciabatta toast.
A light and tasty appetizer — this was the perfect description for their take on Pizza Bianca. The bread, light ciabatta with a nice hint of crunch on the outer bits then you hit the center and it’s soft and warm and together with the melted cheese, it’s just really good. Then there’s the sea salt, garlic, and rosemary bits giving these nice spikes in flavor. It’s really good with some tobasco too.
Minced tofu, tomatoes, green olives, raisines, fried bananas and a fried egg.
I also tried their version of Arroz ala Cubana, the fried tofu bits gave a nice crunch to the bite then you hit the olives and the tomatoes and that gives a more tangy kick, then you hit it with the egg, oh that sunny side up egg with all its golden creamy yolk glory, it makes almost everything better, I really liked the simplicity of flavor and the nice contrast in texture.
For the sweet endings, I tried their Salted Caramel Chocolate Torte and the Chocolate Mousse with Dark Toblerone.
Another rich, velvety sinful one with a graham cracker crust.
A sinful sweet tooth treat, an awesome fix for those who love salty and sweet altogether. You first hit the salted caramel bits on top, sweet with a spike of salty flavor, then there’s the rich, velvety chocolate base and the graham crust that gives it a little hint of crunch. I also liked that even though it has a rich chocolate and caramel base, that hint of saltiness balances the flavors well, not at all cloying.
My reward for trying all that healthy stuff, their Chocolate Mousse with Dark Toblerone. True it’s so rich and delicious, you’ll be back for more, well I can’t get enough of it, it was definitely love at first bite.
Chocolate mousse done right! It’s really simple and good. Took a bite and I love the light, creamy chocolate-y mousse base, everything just melts in your mouth as it gives you pure chocolate bliss. Then you hit these small bits of dark chocolate giving a nice tinge of crunch and a spike of bittersweet chocolate flavor that I really, really liked.
I had a nice dining experience at Corner Tree Cafe, got to try some vegetarian food that has some really good and simple flavors. It’s definitely a decent introduction to the healthy stuff, and they have some killer desserts too. Do give this place a try, it might make you a convert, let me know what you think 😉
