If you’ve been following Yabu: House of Katsu‘s social media pages for a couple of days there’s been this build up and anticipation about their new dishes – they’re calling it THE DON SERIES and they recently launched it with two new donburi sets, hearty and filling dishes served in a hot stone pot and is a teishoku with the usual refillable sides.
SALMON DON – 1 1/2 inch thick salmon steak, crispy salmon skin, salmon roe, mixed teriyaki rice, sauteed bell pepper and eggplant
This definitely tops their Salmon Katsu as my favorite dish in Yabu. Imagine all things salmon goodness from flavor to texture – you start with a thick cut of salmon steak cooked medium so you get the best of both works of caramelized and flaky sides and had this delicate and fatty part as you go to the center part of the fillet of fish. What makes this so special are the other components that they added that makes for a fantastic salmon meal. Some salmon roe that gives you that pop of a mouth-feel and flavor to with the fluffy and sticky teriyaki rice and to top it off some pieces of crisped up salmon skin – SO GOOD!!!! This one is a must-try!
KATSU CURRY DON – signature katsu, beefy japanese curry, melted mozzarella cheese. your choice of rosu, hire or chicken katsu
For the meat lovers, you guys will probably go crazy for their new Katsu Curry Don as it’s definitely a treat and a gorgeous meal with all the usual refillable sides. Imagine your choice of rosu, hire or chicken katsu (my personal pick is rosu since I want my piece of meat with a nice trimming of fat) on a bed of luscious Japanese curry made even more awesome with pieces of beef mixed in and to take things further you have a generous topping of melted mozzarella cheese and all its creamy, string-y, and gooey goodness. This goes really well with lots of fluffy white rice!
Did you know that Yabu has some cocktails too? Special mixed that they made in collaboration of Erwann a few months back. Tried the Kyohime since its flavor profile resembles a mojito which is my go-to mix, it has shochu as base and is mixed with iced team, mint and lime
I really like these two new items for their Donburi series and I really hope they launch more. These dishes will be available starting March 26 and every purchase will give you an entry for their big and awesome promo of a trip for two to Tokyo, Japan. One lucky winner will be drawn on the 31st of March – winners will get their airfare and accommodations covered for 4D3N.
